The Hon. Andrew Scheer, Leader of Canada’s Conservatives, issues statement on Albanian Independence Day

OTTAWA, ON – The Hon. Andrew Scheer, Leader of Canada’s
Conservatives, issues the following statement to mark Albanian Independence
Day:

“Today marks the 107th anniversary of Albania’s independence
from the Ottoman Empire.

“The Albanian people were always determined to build a free
and independent state. The success of the Albanian Revolt of 1912 was the
pinnacle of a long struggle for freedom.

“I was deeply saddened to hear about the recent earthquake
in Albania that took the lives of innocent civilians. I commend the hard work
and dedication of the first responders that made it possible to extract
survivors from the ruined buildings. Canada stands with Albania during this
difficult time as its people continue to work together to find the many
individuals that are missing.

“The Albanian community can be proud of its numerous
contributions to Canadian society, culture and economy over the course of a
century-long settlement in Canada. Your community is an integral part of our
country and a bridge between our two friendly nations.

“On behalf of Canada’s Conservatives, I extend my best
wishes to everyone in Canada and around the world celebrating Albanian
Independence Day!”
