Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Erin O’Toole, Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs,
and Luc Berthold, Shadow Minister for Infrastructure and Communities, released
the following statement regarding the passing of the Conservative motion to
create a special committee on Canada-China relations:
“Today, Canada’s Conservatives passed a motion to create a special committee on
Canada-China relations. This committee will help shed light on Justin Trudeau’s
failures to stand up for Canadian interests with respect to Beijing and lay the
groundwork for a plan to support our citizens, exporters and interests.
“Canada’s Conservatives promised to use every tool possible to hold Justin
Trudeau accountable for his inaction on the world stage. Today’s motion is an
example of how we are living up to that commitment.
“The vote today was an opportunity for Justin Trudeau and his Liberal
government to work with opposition parties to find a solution to these problems
and deliver results for Canadians. Instead of moving forward on these key
issues, the Trudeau Liberals chose to vote against the motion and cover up
their failed track record when it comes to dealing with the Chinese government.
“Canada’s Conservatives, under the Leadership of Andrew Scheer, will continue
to deliver real results for Canadians while holding Justin Trudeau accountable
for his failures.”
