Ottawa, ON – Yesterday, the Liberal government tabled a Ways and Means Motion proposing three modest tax measures. While these changes fall short of what Canadians need, they confirm what Conservatives have known all along: we’re winning the debate.
For years, we’ve led the charge to axe the carbon tax, remove the GST from new homes, and lower income taxes for working Canadians. The Liberals called us reckless. Now they’re trying to pass off watered-down versions of our policies as their own.
Let’s be clear: their so-called “income tax cut” is so small it won’t even cover a cup of coffee per week. Their gesture on the carbon tax barely scratches the surface. And their GST relief applies to far too few homes to make a real difference.
Conservatives came to Ottawa to fight for lower taxes and more powerful paycheques. That’s why we will be proposing:
Because a dollar in the pocket of a Canadian is worth more than a dollar in the pocket of a politician.
We are the party of the taxpayer. We will vote for every tax cut—always and everywhere—and continue fighting for common sense policies that reward hard work and restore opportunity.
If the Liberals want to borrow our ideas, that’s fine. We’ll just keep giving them better ones.
Canadians deserve a government that fights for their paycheques, their homes, and their families. That’s exactly what Conservatives are here to do.
