Erin O’Toole responds to flight suspensions in Atlantic Canada

OTTAWA, ON – The Hon. Erin O’Toole, Leader of Canada’s Conservatives and the Official Opposition, today released the following statement in response to the flight suspensions in Atlantic Canada:

“As we enter the holiday season, today’s announcement of more flight cancellations is devastating for all of the Atlantic provinces.

“For months, the Trudeau government has been promising to help airline workers as the industry struggles with the effects of COVID-19. The Liberals’ failure has allowed a region to become virtually isolated and has led to workers spending Christmas knowing their job won’t be there in the new year.

“We have been asking the Trudeau Liberals for months for a plan to help the Canadians who rely on this industry for work and for travel to see their family. They still have nothing.

“Airports in Saint John and Sydney are now being forced to close their doors. Workers who depend on these airports to get to work and home are now being left with fewer options. This is unacceptable.

“Atlantic Canada has been left behind by the Prime Minister. Conservatives will continue to fight for certainty, clarity, and competence for all Canadians.”
