OTTAWA, ON – The Honourable Erin O’Toole, Leader of Canada’s Conservatives and of the Official Opposition, issued the following statement on Sukkot:

“This evening Jewish families across Canada and around will begin celebrating the festival of Sukkot, one of the most joyous occasions on the Jewish calendar.

“During this eight-day festival families will get together and celebrate the harvest and remember the temporary dwellings in which the Jewish people sheltered on their way out of Egypt. While this year’s celebrations will look different due to the ongoing pandemic, they will nonetheless be as important as ever.

“Just like the Four Species, bound together, are integral to the meaning of this holiday, all Canadians are bound together by our shared values. This is what makes our country so strong and free.

“On behalf of Canada’s Conservatives and the Official Opposition, I wish all Jewish Canadians celebrating Sukkot a Chag Sameach!”
